Suthamie Poologasingham, Chair
Suthamie Poologasingham was born in Kenya to Tamil Hindu parents. The daughter of a diplomat, Suthamie grew up in a number of different countries before eventually settling in Toronto, Canada. She has a B.A. in Computer Science and French from Mount Holyoke College and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business, York University. Suthamie is the Director of Research and Senior Advisor of Ecommerce at J.C. Williams Group, where she advises the retail community on e-commerce and digital strategies. In addition to her work with Sri Lankans Without Borders, Suthamie has been active in the community. She was part of the steering committee of the Young Canadians’ for Peace Dialogue on Sri Lanka organized by the Mosaic Institute.
Amra Ghouse, Director of Volunteer & Recruitment
Born in Colombo, Sri Lanka to Muslim Moor Parents, Amra lived all her life in Sri Lanka until she moved to Canada in 2008. A Human Resources Professional and certified Life Skills Coach, Amra currently works for a reputed Charity in Toronto. Volunteering from a young age, Amra has several years of experience working on community building, peace and interfaith initiatives. She continued to volunteer after moving to Canada by volunteering in Citizenship & Immigration Canada’s Host Program through the Community Development Council of Durham where she helped a new immigrant settle and integrate in Canada. Amra has also served as the Vice President of the Canadian Council of Muslim Women, Toronto Chapter.
Samantha Jeyasinghe, Director of Events
Samantha has an MBA from the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster and a Honours Bachelor of Science in Genetics from the University of Western Ontario. Currently she works in the Capital Markets industry as a Project Manager for regulatory projects in North America and Asia. She has been involved in a variety of community engagements at both an academic and work level in the Toronto area. She is passionate about community building and charity events and looks forward to becoming more involved with SLWB and various other cultural groups in the community.
Romesh Hettiarachchi, Co-Legal Advisor
Romesh Hettiarachchi Lawyer and Mediator, DH Professional Corporation. Romesh is a commercial lawyer for small businesses in Toronto, Canada. Romesh previously helped organize the Mosaic Institute’s Young Canadians Peace Dialogue and subsequently led a small team of young professionals of Sri Lankan origin to raise $25,000 to build water wells for war affected communities in the North and North East of Sri Lanka. He is currently a board member of Sri Lankans Without Borders.
Jessica Jesudasan, Co-Legal Advisor
Jessica was born and raised in the Greater Toronto Area to Tamil Catholic parents from Jaffna. Because of her family’s regionally and ethnically diverse group of Sri Lankan friends here in Toronto, she gained an appreciation early on for the unique nature of Sri Lanka’s regions and people, as well as the commonalities they all share. Her interest in Sri Lanka’s ethnic and political conflict was one of the earliest influences on her decision to pursue her law degree at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, where she is currently a law student. Jessica also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Legal Studies and Business from the University of Waterloo. She has held volunteer positions relating to the Sri Lankan community, Tamil community, student outreach, and legal education.
Madhu Rupasinghe, Marketing & Events
Madhu left Sri Lanka at the age of 5 and lived in various cities in North America before finally calling Toronto home in 2011. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and a Graduate Certificate in Corporate Communications. She currently works for SickKids Foundation, is an avid traveler and a strong believer in giving back and makes a mean guacamole.
Rathod Ranganathan, CPA, CMA, Director of Finance
Rathodsathan Ranganathan was born in Inuvil, Sri Lanka and spent his childhood in Nigeria and Sri Lanka. He and his family immigrated to Canada in the late 1990s. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from University of Toronto and a designated Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA). He currently works as an Accountant and is an avid tennis player and fan. Rathodsathan has been actively involved with volunteering initiatives in the community throughtout his career, most recently with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. (MLSE) foundation.
Lucksan Myl, Director of Business Development
Lucksan graduated from Ryerson University with a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance and minoring in Accounting. He has passed Level 1 of the CFA Program and currently works as a Senior Credit Risk Analyst at CIBC. Lucksan’s role involves participating in fundraising proposals and grants to help raise funds for SLWB initiatives.
Adrian Canagasuriam, Director of Research
Adrian is currently a student at the Osgoode Hall Law School at York University. Coming to us from the West coast, Adrian has his B.A. from the University of Victoria and has done an exchange program in Singapore. Currently, he is working in Legal Research and has recieved many awards and honours, such as the Maureen Dobbin Scholarship in 2014. Adrian has a soft spot for mental health and strives to provide research to the team that can be actioned through events, marketing and funding.
Kavitha Aryharan, Director of Marketing & Media
Kavitha was born in Montreal, and raised in Toronto. She holds her Bachelor of Commerce from Ryerson University and has taken Graphic Design and Project Management courses from Seneca College. Kavitha has been a Marketer throughout her career working with well known brands such as Weight Watchers Canada, General Motors and Staples Business Advantage. She is the founder of saaACTIVE, an initiative started to help the community get active and raise funds for children with autism.
